Be inspired by Eileen Doughty’s evolution of thread sculpture – beginning with landscape art quilts, then thread painting, then adding the 3rd dimension for free-standing fiber art made of only thread. Eileen says she loves thread so much, she leaves out the fabric. The teapot is her favorite object to create. It is a timeless, recognizable form yet allows for endless whimsical variations by artists working in all media.

Eileen Doughty is a fiber artist and Board Member of the Virginia Quilt Museum. Her previous career as a cartographer has been useful for her fiber art, since both require understanding how people view and interpret color, pattern and symbols. Currently her work focuses on exploring what makes fiber art unique: texture, freedom of shape of the “canvas” (not limited to a rectangle or straight edges), and employing three rather than two dimensions.

The Virginia Quilt Museum offers refunds for program and event registrations up until 2 weeks before the program. If you are unable to attend a program that you have paid for, you are welcome to transfer your registration to a friend or family member on your own. Please alert VQM to the change in registration by emailing info@vaquiltmuseum.org. If you would like to request a refund prior to the cutoff deadline please email info@vaquiltmuseum.org and include the name and date of the program you would like a refund for.
