This project aims to create an exhibition featuring 250 quilts that tell the history of the Commonwealth of Virginia. These quilts will be 20"
square and will be juried into the exhibition from a call for entries. The quilts must depict a person, place, event, area, idea, or thing from Virginia history. For the purpose of this project the geographic boundaries will include all of current day Virginia and West Virginia. (Until 1863 West Virginia was part of the Commonwealth of Virginia.) The time frame that can be included in this project is open ended, from the creation of the physical land that is the Commonwealth of Virginia roughly 1.5 billion years ago to the present day.
See below for more information on the themes of the project, the call for entries (deadline to submit is October 26, 2024), events, resources, the exhibition, and the advisory committee. Call for entries is now open!
