Harrisonburg Quilt Along Exhibit

Call for entries accepted March 16 - June 30, 2024!

This project started when Wendy Sheppard and Pat Sloan saw a post on the Virginia Quilt Museum’s Instagram featuring a quilt from the museum’s collection. Wendy and Pat started texting each other about how much they loved the quilt and how great it would be for a quilt along. They reached out to Alicia Thomas, VQM’s Executive Director, and asked if she would be interested in a quilt along as a fundraiser for the museum. Alicia enthusiastically said yes!

Wendy went to work and created the pattern and generously allowed the Virginia Quilt Museum to be the sole seller of the pattern for six months. Patterns went up for sale in January of 2023 and Pat started promoting the quilt along on her daily YouTube Videos. In February the quilt along started! Pat also came and filmed at the museum with Alicia to showcase the historic quilt that had inspired the pattern. Throughout the course of the quilt along VQM sold over 2,500 patterns and raised over $31,000 to support the museum!

This exhibition will feature the historic quilt that started it all, Pat and Wendy's versions of the quilt, along with quilts selected from a call for entries. The call for entries will be open from March 16 - June 30, 2024. See the full call for entries and submit your quilt here.
