Log Cabin Fever!

Upcoming Exhibit
Start Date:
January 21, 2025
End Date:
April 26, 2025

The log cabin quilt, with blocks of simple strips built around a center, is a traditional style that remains a modern favorite. Log Cabin quilts first appeared around the mid-1800’s and have been linked to Abraham Lincoln’s 1860 presidential campaign. They served as a successful experiment with foundation paper piecing, a technique in which blocks are backed by foundation squares to support flimsy material, and were popular patterns to execute in silks, satins, and velvets. This exhibit will highlight several vintage log cabin quilts from the museum’s collection.

Come learn the history and explore the variety of old American log cabin quilts in this exhibit, along with Amy Pabst’s Micropiecing: Quarter Million exhibit of miniature log cabin quilts, which will be on display at the same time.
