Spotlight on Virginia Quilters - Emily Martin
January 21, 2025
March 15, 2025
Emily Martin completed her first quilt in 1978, an orange peel or "robbing Peter to pay Paul" pattern. Emily has been inspired by Jinny Beyer and Elly Sienkiewicz and her quilting reflects these inspirations. After meeting Elly and learning to applique, Emily focused on honing her applique skills. This exhibition will feature 7 amazing applique quilts made by Emily including a stunning lap quilt featuring the 12 days of Christmas to an amazing miniature Baltimore Album.
Emily will be honored at our March 8 Meet the Artists Afternoon. See more details about that event here.
The Virginia Quilt Museum is honored to introduce our newest series of exhibits as we share the work of outstanding quilters from across our great commonwealth, "Spotlight on Virginia Quilters". Throughout 2025, we will feature six different quilters who have worked quietly behind the scenes perfecting their craft, sharing their expertise, and supporting their local communities. These artists may never have won national awards or taught on the big stages, but they are the backbone of our quilting communities. These small exhibitions will feature 4-8 works from the artist and be on display for 7-8 weeks.
If you would like to nominate somone to be featured in the "Spotlight on Virginia Quilters" please fill out this form by February 9, 2025.
