Help VQM achieve our goal of raising $17,000 through Great Community Give to fund our exhibitions for 2025. Exhibitions are the core of the work that VQM takes on each year. Through our exhibitions, we share historical and contemporary quilts from the museum’s collection, shows by solo artists, and traveling exhibitions. Costs associated with our exhibitions include printing signage and labels, paying for shipping for traveling exhibitions, staff time, and advertisements to promote the exhibition.

Have you ever looked at a quilt and wondered about its history? When did quilting become an art form? How did the maker decide which fabrics to use? Why do you think they picked that pattern? Was it a gift for a special occasion, was it for daily use, or was it a creation of artistic expression? Here at the Virginia Quilt Museum (VQM), we explore these questions and so much more every day. The Virginia Quilt Museum celebrates the artistry, craft, history, and heritage of quilting through exhibitions, programs, events, and our collection of over 300 quilts. VQM works to honor and celebrate the quilters of the past and present and inspire the next generation of quilters and fiber artists.

In the past few years, VQM has hosted amazing exhibitions from nationally recognized quilters such as Susan Lapham, Sandy Curran, Kevin Womack, and Amy Pabst. Along with these solo shows, VQM has had shows from esteemed groups such as Sacred Threads and the American Quilt Study Group.
